| Hardness removal for boiler feed water conditioning, Confidential Client, Central Valley , California |
| |
This oil-seed processing facility obtains its boiler and cooling water from a high dissolved solids ground water source. We performed a feasibility study of treatment options that could improve performance and reduce the high operating costs of an existing softener. We performed a conceptual design and evaluated a reverse osmosis (RO) and ion exchange system for water softening. We prepared a bid package and obtained and evaluated bids on behalf of the client. The recommended system was projected to substantially improve performance while reducing operating costs by over 75%. We also evaluated the disposal options for wastewater from ion exchange regeneration and RO reject streams. The options included a solar evaporation pond. We evaluated the pond capacity required for the wastewater to be generated by the softening/conditioning system. We prepared a budgetary estimate of the cost to line and construct evaporation cells at the site of an existing pond. |
